About Me

About Me:

Hi everyone! I’m Jess and thanks for visiting. Just a few things random things about me.  I’m born and raised in New York and love it.  I ♥ organization, vibrant colors, and home cooking. I think DIY projects are awesome. I’ve finally learn to take chances on myself, and I have to say, it’s phenomenal.  I’m hoping my site helps inspire at least one person or family.

A Lot On Your Plate has just recently become a .com and I couldn’t be more excited about it.  Check it out: ALotOnYourPlate.com!

  2. Hi Jess! I love your manifesto and statement! It’s perfect! I’m totally jealous as I’ve never been to New York and (have heard so much) about the big apple! I love DIY (I just wished it loved me back more) and I looooove organisation!

  3. Hi! I like what you’ve got going here!! Do you need a little help getting your categories set up? I can see in your posts that you have them assigned to categories but don’t have any listed. I just started my blog about 6 months ago and was lucky enough to go to a course which helped me get some basics figured out. If you want I can send you a few ideas that might help…..I’m SO not a pro, but I think you’d find your site really fun to navigate if you had that done…..

  4. Good morning! Thak you so much for stopping by my blog, http:// smallhouseunderabigsky.wordpress.com

Although I have 40 years experience in corporate communications, I’m fairly new to blogging and learning as I go. The trick is translating print into electronic!

I jumped on your site and LOVE the great artwork – very creative! Good luck and stop in when ever you can!

Your blog is very interesting and inspiring. Thank you for sharing nice ideas. This life has definitely to be made easier. I will surely be visiting your blog regularly.

  27. Glad you liked the cherry brandy recipe on yes-you-can-can.com. I’m going to post a great, low sugar, sour cherry jam recipe today that you might like, too. It’s so easy to make and so very good on hot biscuits and cornbread.

  28. It’s live right now…could not resist. And if you Mom wants a good brownie recipe that’s low sugar and tasty enough that my grandson (15) likes them, tell her to try this recipe: http://yes-you-can-can.com/2011/11/19/recipe-for-holiday-brownies-that-are-healthy/ Hope you like the jam recipe. Could use some feedback on the directions if you have time. It’s second nature to me but I don’t want to miss a step or share something that’s unclear….

  37. Hi there! Oh you’ve got another award, or perhaps more! I nominated you here too – http://wp.me/p2nm8L-yn – just wasn’t sure if you got the pingback. I had a huge list of nominations so I thought pingbacks would be a good idea. Anywho, this is an award for Versatile Blogger! because you are! :-)

  38. Thank you for following my blog. I love one of your fonts but they are not to be used on cards I make and sell on etsy, right? Just checking!
    The Lioness @ cardtales!

  39. Thanks so much for visiting my blog crazywonderfullife. Your site has a lot of helpful information on it, especially the recipes. The “Use what you’ve got” contests look like a lot of fun.

  40. Jess, for someone with a lot on your plate, you still seem to manage keeping all the balls in the air quite nicely! (if you don’t mind me mixing my metaphors)

A belated thanks for following my blog. I recently left the WordPress.com nest and am now doing the self-hosting thing. It has some advantages, but the disadvantage is it is not so easy as it was to keep connected to readers. I am doing my best to connect with people, etc.

To that end, if you have comments to make to any posts, I would be happy to hear them (I have some fun ones like baking a Tart Tatine coming up, so keep your eyes peeled). And I promise I will not be a stranger on your site as well!

    All the best,

  41. I viewed your Smores recipes–that brought back memories of Girl Scouts and those sticky chewy treats! You have a nice looking blog, Jessica, thanks for following mine. I’ll be back now and then to see what you’re up to!

  42. Hi Jess … thank you for the visit and for the friendship. Your blog is vibrant and informative, an attraction for us all. May you enjoy success now, and in the future.
    Blessings – Maxi

  45. Thanks for stopping by my blog and clicking on my post to my daughter starting kindergarten. I love your 5 minute recipes. Might have to try the Twisted Smores tonight (it just rained on my fire pit).

  46. Hello Jess and thank you for following my blog. This gives me confidence to keep writing :-) . Your blog is really nice and full of usefull tips. So, I’ll follow you also :-) happy to have met you :-)

  47. I love that you are taking chances on yourself…we all need to be better about believing in ourselves. Oftentimes I have a “brilliant” idea & it never comes to fruition because I underestimate myself. I’m starting to take chances too!!!! Love the blog & congrats on the .com…I’m going that direction too!!! ;)

  48. Hey Jess! Can I just say that you made my day today? You’re the very first person to follow our blog that isn’t a family member or a personal friend! It put a huge smile on my face this morning, so thanks a bunch! I absolutely adore your site – the scheme is so pretty and the blog is just bursting with so many interesting things. I think we may be kindred spirits, because I’m the queen of organization. Nothing makes me happier…other than maybe cooking. =) I love all your tips, and I’m looking forward to following you and all the new things you post. Please let us know if you end up making the Tiramisu Italiano for yourself; it’s out of this world, I promise!

Would you propose starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid
option? There are so many options out there that I’m completely overwhelmed .. Any tips? Kudos!

    • Hey try a free website as a beginner. It’s a simple and easy way of showcasing your skills plus it has an advantage to explore your web designing skills at no cost(wordpress and blogspot offer free websites with built-in web)

Coming to tips, the author of this blog must have something to say…

  87. Hello,

I trust this message finds you well.

I’ve just had the fortune of being awarded the Liebster Award blogs and as part of the protocol I’ve nominated/awarded 9 other blogs as well.

The Liebster Award is a process where a blogger is ‘tagged’ by a blogger who has received the award and then if they accept it writes a post. In that post they let readers get to know them a bit better with:
    1) a number of personal facts (I’ve chosen 10 but it’s not arbitrary),
    2) answer the questions posted to them in the nominators post,
    3) propose a list of questions themselves to their own awardees
    4) finally list the awardees who the award will be passed to.

As yours is a blog I enjoy and admire I’ve ‘tagged’ you as one of my awardees. I hope you don’t mind and whether you join in the game or not is your choice. I’ve displayed your banner (and the banners of the other awardees) on my award post in order to promote your blog and give readers a visual concept before clicking. If for any reason that is unacceptable to you please let me know and I will remove it.

Full details can be found in my post here: http://nattybrat.wordpress.com/2013/07/24/the-natty-brat-has-been-awarded-the-liebster-blog-award/

Thank you for putting together such a great blog that interests and inspires.

  92. My name is John and my blog is http://www.ourpersonaljourney.wordpress.com. I have a proposal for you. I am inviting you to write your journey (and it doesn’t have to be about losing weight) for my blog. It can be any kind of journey that you want, depression, drugs, your spiritual walk, life experiences, etc.. Anything where you can see that you were in one place and ended in a better place and what you learned. I will put a link to your blog along with it. My hope is that we can bring each other some new traffic to each of our blogs. I hope we can both benefit from this.

  93. Jess, Your blog is inspiring, and it has been selected by me for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. Even if you prefer not to accept this award, please accept this as a compliment and an indication of appreciation for your creative work. The philosophy of the award is: “The Dragon’s Loyalty Award is an award for the loyal fan/commenter, whether the recipient is a fellow blogger or just someone who follows and comments regularly.” Congratulations!

  94. Hey just letting you know that I nominated you for the sunshine award because I love reading your posts and find them inspiring! All you have to do is pass along the sunshine and answer 10 fun questions! I hope that you end up participating in it because it’s super fun! It’s okay if you don’t and in that case I’d just like to say thanks for being an awesome blogger!
